A professional beer brewer surprises his West Virginia bride with a trip that would soon lead to their big day.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]lthough Nina, a landscape architect from Morgantown, and Dave, a beer brewer from Ft. Myers, Florida, first met at a Halloween party in 2010, their love affair didn’t really begin until he surprised her with a midnight bus trip to New York City.

As they walked in the rain along the High Line, a stretch of abandoned railway repurposed as a park, Nina realized she was in love. In September 2012, Dave again whisked Nina off to the Big Apple. When they reached the High Line, Dave proposed.

At the wedding two years later, the bride wore a modern, structured, cream-colored gown. The groom wore a three-piece khaki linen suit and a monogrammed tie clip that belonged to Nina’s late grandfather.

Nina carried a rustic bouquet featuring a maidenhair fern with white and orange flowers, ranunculus, and anemone—along with a handkerchief carried by her mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother at their own weddings. The bridal party walked down the aisle to “Oh Shenandoah,” played on the acoustic guitar by Dave’s groomsman Chester Vincent. In front of friends and family, the couple was married under a chuppah made with Dave’s bar mitzvah tallit.

Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a brewery-themed reception, since Dave is a professional beer brewer. Each table featured a growler from a different brewery from a significant place for the bride and groom. The cake was a three-tier almond and orange zest cake with cream cheese frosting, decorated with almond shingles. The groom’s cake was a big cookie featuring Dave’s face, the same illustration that appears on the label for his Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Cambridge Uncommon IPL, which was also on tap at the reception.

Guests enjoyed their drinks in custom pint glasses that read, “Cheers! To family, friends, and full glasses.” “The toasts were the most memorable moments of the weekend,” Nina says. “They were unplanned and amazingly meaningful.”

To continue with the theme, each table was marked with a growler from breweries in West Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, and other significant places to the bride and groom. The couple honeymooned in Barcelona, Spain.
